How we handle your information
This explains how we collect and look after your information when you check your eligibility for the reMISSION study at the University of Sydney. Please read it before you begin the questionnaire.
Who is collecting your information
The University of Sydney is running this study. The eligibility questionnaire and consent form are hosted in REDCap, a secure survey system managed by the University.
What we collect and why
When you check your eligibility, we only collect the answers you give in the questionnaire — including some information about your health, such as your diabetes and your height and weight. We use these answers to check whether you may be eligible for the study. We do not ask for your name or contact details at this step.
Answering is voluntary. You can stop at any time, without giving a reason. If you choose not to answer some questions, we may not be able to check your eligibility.
What happens next
If you may be eligible, you'll be taken to a consent form, where you can read and download the full Participant Information Statement and Consent Form. If you choose to go ahead, you'll be asked for your name and contact details and to sign. Signing doesn't enrol you in the study — it gives us permission to save your details so a member of the research team can contact you to explain the study and answer your questions.
If you're not eligible, you'll be taken to a page letting you know, and you don't need to do anything more.
How long we keep your information, and where
Your answers are stored in REDCap and are later moved to the University's secure Research Data Store. We keep this information for 15 years, in line with the rules for research data. This applies to everyone who completes the questionnaire — including people who turn out not to be eligible. Your answers are not stored in the reMISSION app's database; they stay within the University's secure research systems.
Who can see your information
Only the reMISSION research team and staff who help run the study can access your answers. We will not use your information for advertising, and we will not share it with anyone outside the study except where the law requires or allows it.
Your privacy rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or make a privacy complaint. The University handles your personal and health information under NSW privacy law (the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002).
